Audio Book – Horses Never Lie! The Real Life Horse Whisperer, Mark Rashid – fabulous for when you are mucking out!

I was fortunate enough to receive Mark Rashid’s book as a gift last year, but finding the time to sit down and read it seemed impossible amidst the daily demands of work and caring for my horses. That’s when I decided to give Audible’s free 30-day trial a shot. With around 2 hours dedicated to mucking out, filling hay nets, and feeding each day, I found the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in Rashid’s wisdom.

Popping in my earbuds during chores transformed what could have been mundane tasks into enjoyable experiences, especially during the hay net filling! I recently finished listening to “Horses Never Lie” and “A Good Horse is Never a Bad Color.” Admittedly, I may have listened to them in the wrong order, but let me tell you, both books are absolutely fabulous.

Rashid’s insights into horsemanship resonate deeply, offering valuable lessons that I can apply to my own journey with horses. Despite my initial apprehension about finding time to read, Audible has proven to be a game-changer, allowing me to learn and grow while tending to my equine companions. Whether you’re a seasoned horse owner or just starting out, I highly recommend giving Rashid’s books a listen – you won’t be disappointed!

Here renowned trainer Mark Rashid introduces us to his revolutionary method for training horses. His sensitive, thoughtful approach emphasizes the importance of balance, and has led some to refer to him
as a real-life horse whisperer.

“It has always been my contention that working with horses is, or at least should be, a delicate balancing act between finding how much or how little direction it will take to help the horse we are working with understand whatever it is we are trying to teach. Too little direction and our efforts might become ineffective. Too much direction and we may develop resistance
and animosity between our horse and us.”

With this sensitive, thoughtful approach, Rashid challenges the conventional wisdom of “alpha leadership” and teaches the reader to become a “passive leader”-a human counterpart to the kind of horse other members of a herd choose to associate with and to follow. Applying Rashid’s principles and techniques helps cultivate horse personalities that are responsive and dependable regardless of the rider. Reliving Rashid’s experiences with him, you will come to feel the same sort of compassion and appreciation for your horses that you do for the people in your life. This edition features additional notes at the end of each chapter that contribute to a more complete understanding of Rashid’s methods and
philosophy.

In “Horses Never Lie,” acclaimed horse trainer Mark Rashid breaks new ground by challenging the longstanding belief that a person must become the “alpha leader” in order to work with horses.Instead, “Horses Never Lie” teaches you how to become a “passive leader”—a reflection of the kind of horse other members of a herd choose to be around and to follow. It’s a must-read for all horse owners who care about their horses and the kind of relationship they have with them.

Mark Rashid is an internationally known author and horseman known for his ability to understand the horse’s point of view and solve difficult problems with communication rather than force. He began working with horses at age ten, when he met the “old man,” who taught him to work with horses, not against them, and to listen to what the horse is trying to say. Mark’s clinics are structured as one-on-one work with horses and riders and are immensely popular with people around the world.

When Mark decided to study the martial art of aikido as a way to improve his horsemanship, he brought the same quiet determination to it that he exhibits in his work with horses. After years of practice, he has earned a third degree black belt in Yoshinkan aikido and now teaches the “way of harmony” in the local dojo as well as in his Aikido for Horseman workshops, which are known also by the name of “Aibado.”

Mark worked full-time on ranches for many years gathering herds, managing stock, and training horses. When time permits, he still enjoys working on ranches near his home in Colorado as well as playing guitar professionally with his friends.

Mark has been a guest on NPR’s The Horse Show and was featured on the Nature series on PBS. He is the author of fifteen books including his newest, For the Love of the Horse, and such classics as Considering the Horse, Horses Never Lie, Life Lessons from a Ranch Horse, Horsemanship Through Life, Whole Heart, Whole Horse, and Finding The Missed Path, as well as a novel, Out of the Wild. He also has three music CD’s: Song of the Prairie, Making Good Time, and My Western Town, recorded with his good friend Brad Fitch.
